Bright looking day today but boy is it chilly. Will be venturing out soon to check the local Tesco for any Christmas offers but mainly for the traditional festive veg reductions. Visited Morrisons yesterday where bags of sprouts, carrots, parsnips and a swede were being sold for the princely sum of 5p/item but, only via purchase with its Club card - which I don't have. So like all others in the same boat I will buy elsewhere. An act of self-harm by Morrisons I think and something that I think would never have got past Ken Morrison were he still on scene. :whump:

Edit to add: Well, bought my veg at Tesco who are selling pretty much the same veg as Morrisons but for 3x the price at 15p/item via a Tesco Club card - which I do have. Still cheap I thought but popped into a nearby Lidl on my way back and ... it is selling much of the same for 5p/item same as Morrisons but that is the price to all and no type of Club card is required. Grrr! :mad1:

I went to Aldi on Thursday whom were selling veg carrots, pots, sprouts, purple cabbage, parsnips all 5p no club card, on the way home had to pop in Morrison's

AS i entered the store there right in front of you were the same as above 5p but only if you have the more card, a lady was there who was the manager, i asked i cant but these can as a normal shopper she said yes, but you have to have a more card, I then said surely that is bordering on discrimination or is discrimination, she looked shocked then answered but the more card is free, but they need your details name address etc email. and you have to download the app on your phone so no it's not free is it really.

Same with tins of chocolate quality street etc £3.50p with card without £7 how can they justify this, got the quality street from Aldi £3.50 its all a con and we stand for it.

Overcast and wet here, a day in I think. I have made a start on using some of the Christmas veg, steamed some for lunch and have kept some prepped for later. It is quite filling ... Burp! :gmc:

I let my guard drop with a garden incinerator earlier in the year and it bit me in the rear. Very embarrassing as in a previous life I was nominated as man-A for all things fire related. I left it unattended (first golden fire rule broken) while I nipped into the house for a toilet break, returned a couple of minutes later to find a large part of the rear garden ablaze. The incinerator which was well past its best and lidless due to rust had flashed over to a large pile of conifer waste and ye Gods it was burning with fury. It was then that I realised that I had nothing at hand to extinguish/fight it with (second golden fire rule broken). Most of the conifer waste was still very green and I thought too wet to have burned at all but once it caught it became self-feeding such was the heat. Much embarrassment followed but suffice to say before lighting a fire assess the area for suitability and safety. Do not use an incinerator/fire grid that is past its best. Never EVER leave a fire unattended and always have something to hand in advance to extinguish/fight it with. Here endeth the lesson for something that will hopefully never be repeated - by myself at least. Cough! :em: :gmc:

well as everyone got all their presents ready to make others happy, or are you one of those whom leaves it to the last day, and suffer the mad rush on Christmas eve.

I'm glad we don't do presents in our family, we decided a few years back to stop it, what a relief for all, sucking on an Humbug at the moment and it tastes great.

Marina is the present obsessive in ours. We all club together for something the grandkids will really appreciate but then she goes off on one calling them "stocking fillers" never seen so much junk in your life, still keeps her happy.

Somehow we have been roped in to make sure the next door neighbour isn't on his own for Christmas, this has now escalated into him, a couple of other single pensioners and Marina and I all setting off for 3 days B&B in Bloody Blackpool starting Christmas eve. Not my idea of fun at all. Need to find a way out of this for next year.

Christmas this year seems to have come and gone in a flash. Enjoyed a superb traditional meal on the day and was pleased to have attended a great local candlelight carol service because the offerings of the same on TV were, quite frankly, abysmal. Midnight mass on the BBC I think was ruined from the off by the choir, the choirmaster gave the impression of being a dropout from music school. Anyhow, roll on the new year and hope it will be the year in which MH-370 is finally found. Ocean Infinity will commence searching for it on 30 December 2025 using one of its Armada ships and much better equipment. :)

I thought about not renewing my subsidy this year for the BBC because I don't like what it has come to represent and hardly ever watch it. If I do it is usually for a quick look in passing to escape the ad breaks from my preferred channel. I renewed only to stay on the right side of the law as I do like to watch my preferred channel live and have yet to discover a satisfactory way of legally replicating that experience without submitting to the demand to subsidise the BBC. Off out shortly for a repeat of my Christmas day meal, couldn't refuse really as it is an invite from relatives one of who is a retired Chef and will be doing the meal.

Well, just back from a 4 day break over Christmas in Blackpool. This came about because our elderly neighbour used to go over Christmas with his wife who he lost a couple of years ago. Marina volunteered us to go with him and another couple so he wouldn't be on his own for Christmas.
Bloody hell he is 78 year old and I cannot keep up with his drinking. we have gone through just short of £375 for two of us for three days of drinking with him. Apparently he has had a great time and wants to do it again next year! Me, i'm off to bed....

True sprit of Christmas then drink and be merry, all our jollies where done over facetime, no headache then, no tidying up afterwards and no aftermath, Dave maybe get him a good bottle of scotch next year instead

Had a walk into town via the new footbridge that recently opened, the bridge links the site where Vaux Brewery once stood to the site of SAFC's football stadium. After years of dereliction and inactivity there is evidence of a lot of work in progress and the linked areas are now looking much better. An area within the development was being used as a venue for a public event in celebration of the approaching new year. There was live entertainment, a funfair for kids and a sprinkling of vendors trading from their mobile facilities. The event will culminate with a firework display which I gather will take place early in the evening and not at midnight, that will accommodate the kids and the travel arrangements of those without their own transport.

Best wishes to all for 2026 and to Ukraine in particular - never give up.

Planning is an unnatural process, much better to just get on with things, that way failure comes as a complete surprise instead of being preceeded by a period of worry and doubt
