Its always amusing waking up the morning after the clocks change and looking at your phone and trying to guess if it has adjusted automatically or not. Especially so waking up in Hull in the hotel after drinking far too many beers the night before with the likes of Trikey, Marina Brian, Shiner, Ricardo, Mr Doodles to name but a few, (forgot a good few more) etc. Looking around the room it was just staggering the depth of knowledge no longer on the OC. Duncan and Artic would not have looked out of place in that sort of company
We certainly got into the spirit and gave him a good send off people travelled from as far as Newcastle and Southampton (nice to see you again Dave). Even Actros made an appearance
Nice you still remember Debz Steve, been a few years since she has passed Trikey well never forget her, that was obvious last night. Debz would no doubt be happy to see Andy has found love again with Rachael who believe it or not was friends with Debz at school, she is also going to Mexico with him along with Meg (Andy & Debz dog)
Funny old world.
Welcome to all who have managed to migrate ;)

Hi Dave.
Wow some illustrious names there including your self Dave, sound like everyone a a great time, also wishing Andy & Rachael/meg well on their new adventure, big decision to make in later life, but trikey as always been a go getter from what I've known of him and heard of, i bet the food will be good also lots of tacos.

Yes i had to set the clock in the FL2 today after noticing it had not doen it automatically and two old analogue clocks we have in the bedrooms why we keep them i don't know topped up both the FL2 and Van today also, and got 5lts petrol for our generator.

Petrol was £9.06p for the 5.89l £1.51 of that was Vat.

Diesel was £45.84p for 24.66l £7.64p of that was Vat.

The government are ripping us off have no doubt about that.

Wonder how much it will have gone up by the end of the week, my bet is another 10p wonder do Mexico have there own oil and how much is it over there.

Sunny day here and about to have a mug of coffee after retrieving the bin post today's collection. Nice to hear that a good time was had by all in Hull, Dave. I was an online attendee at Deb's funeral and remember her well, also Meg who will be sharing the new adventure with Andy and Rachael. I also remember his other rust coloured four-legged friend who sadly is no longer with us and whose name escapes me atm.

I managed to adjust all of my clocks that needed doing in good time and left just one to adjust itself via what used to be called the Rugby time signal. There was only one concern and that was with my wristwatch which has a date function. I did not know until recently that damage can be caused if adjustment is done at the wrong time - namely between ~ 9pm and ~ 3am. That is when the gears which change the date are in operation and damage can be caused by any intervention. Some watches are safe by design from the problem but as I'm not sure about mine I left it for the next day until a safe time presented.

Yes, we live in interesting times re the cost of things like fuel and booze. I can't see fuel uncertainty changing for the better until a certain character is forced to come to terms with what constitutes a regime change. :gmc:

Mine are Nextbase. The ones with GPS will correct the time to the minute, but you still need to select ‘GMT’ or ‘GMT+1’.

Weather looking good here again today, bright and sunny and a clear sky atm. Having a coffee while mulling over a flyer from a local hairdresser that was pushed through the letter box this morning. Quite surprised to see the prices, gents £14 and pensioners £11. It has been a long time since I last visited such establishments as I have alternative means so I'm not up to date on pricing but it seems rather expensive now to me. I recall paying ~ £6 on my last visit for a quick simple gents trim though that will have been circa 20 years ago now. So, what is the going rate in your area? :-o

It will depend how clever it is, I suppose. A lot of tech will sort itself out. Not Nextbase, unfortunately.

My front camera has GPS, so although it will correct the time, as such, you still need to tell it which time zone it is in, twice a year. The rear one doesn’t have GPS or time zones, so that needs altering each time the clocks change.

I wish our barbers charged so little, £23 and OAPs for £18. That is cheaper than the flashy "Hairdressing Salons" on the High Street. Plenty of "Turkish Barbers" though but I guess they don't need to compete, ;)

Way back, in schooldays, I used to pay 6d (2.5p) for a haircut by a back street barber affectionately known as Sweeney Todd. It was dearer on a Saturday though.

Cutting hair is a growing business in this area too Bernard. I think we have about 5 shops sprinkled around the neighbourhood now offering the service when once there were none. Some have been around a while though and predate the rash of Turkish barbers that we now see, but two are definitely of the more recent Turkish type. One I pass whenever I venture out and it looks very impressive, brightly lit and immaculately fitted out with new gleaming equipment. The benches in the waiting area are colour coordinated with the ~ 6 large plush looking American type chairs that are used for the cutting service. It is the most recent arrival and it must have cost a bit to set it up. :-?

See the occasional customer in the Turkish salon that I pass, Dave, but in the main it tends to look very empty. The reputation of the Turkish salons here will have taken a bit of a hit a few years ago when one in a neighbouring area was linked with a skin infection which presented on the head of a schoolboy. A visit to the salon by Public Health officials found that the cutting equipment was not being sterilized between customers, which until I read of had no idea of the requirement. The more knowledgeable females in the family were in their element; you would not expect the same from a dentist or a surgeon, they said. They delighted in the superior standards and knowledge of women over men.

Oh. Prices for fur reduction!!! Mine costs the tiny price for charging the clippers. Someone else I know ends up paying over £40 a time and that's no fancy styling. I have offered to reduce the price to almost zero using the same clippers. Can't understand why that has been 'strongly' declined.

Nice thought Steve, but I think the "delight" is more likely to be in the form of Columbian marching powder. :gmc:

As an infant mum would have dad take me and my older brother for the 3 of us to get a haircut ~ November as she wanted us all to be trimmed and ready for Christmas. We lived on the edge of town and there were no barber shops anywhere nearby so dad would walk us, nobody had cars then, to a house a couple of miles or so away where a guy did a roaring trade cutting hair as a sideline in his living room. It was popular among the adults who all knew each other and sat socializing while waiting for their turn on the kitchen chair which was placed in the center of the room for the service. The guy doing the cutting was ex-military according to dad where he had been called on to cut hair in the style of short, back and sides with a little off the top. And that is what we always got.

The only extra offered was a free application of ... Brylcream. :scared:
