Alternative bumper / wing fir tree clip supplier by stevenkeyte

I think I've identified a suitable replacement for the long time unobtainable two piece clip which fixes the bumper to the front wing on our cars, usually know as the 'fir tree clip'.
The original clips seem to have been manufactured by a company called TRW and they produce a very similar two piece clip, these are supplied by a retailer called JetPress and their reference number for the clip is TPF071, here's a link to the relevant page:
https://www.jetpress.com/component-and- ... utton-type
The alternative clip isn't identical, the yellow fir tree part of the clip is different in having only one pair of barbs (the original has two) but otherwise I think it's a good match.
I've asked them for a sample so that I can compare it against the original clips I have,

Thanks for doing this and sharing, it's gonna get harder to find the little things as things get older.
Welcome to all who have managed to migrate ;)

I've now received the sample clip from Jet Press of the possible substitute fir tree clip:

The upper clip is the original clip used by MGR and the lower clip is the TPF071 clip, as you can see, the only difference I can see is the number of barbs on the replacement clip,

My guess is, the extra barb is just to help in the factory where it would be easier to align when fitting.

Hi Duncan, yes, I had exactly the same thought, when you read the RAVE instructions on fitting the bumper, the procedure is to fit the assembled clip to the bumper, then fit the bumper to the vehicle, engaging the clip into the bracket in the front wing, as you say, the extra barbs on the clip will just help with aligning the clip inro the wing bracket. The clip is in effect a press stud which is designed to come apart to remove the bumper and then clip back together on assembly and it's the only real solution in view of the fact that you can't get into the area where the clip is once the bumper is on, so a more conventional fastener isn't really practical,

Planning is an unnatural process, much better to just get on with things, that way failure comes as a complete surprise instead of being preceeded by a period of worry and doubt

Hi Steve.
I found the clips i was referring to in the other thread, that are used on the Freelander 2 side panels.

They are the same as the ones you received.

These are photos of the fixing which is stuck to the inner side of the bumper, with M3 tape

They could possibly be removed and re-attached to help close the S ?
