Has anyone come across an issue with the short pipe from the top of the underbonnet pump to the fuel filter. Car hasn't run in a while, and when starting it up to move it, thought there was a strong smell of diesel. Opened the bonnet and there's fuel sitting on top of the pump. Drying it off and switching on the ignition it gets wet again. It might be possible to fit a new hose clamp, but it could be a split hose, and replacements aren't available.
Hi Duncan. Yes I've seen it a few of times, i cut about 5mm off the end and it cured the problem, Dave whom comes to the meet also had the same problem but is turned out to be the pump itself leaking at the top.

I will have a look what i have in the shed later 2
Many thanks. I did wonder if it could be the pump, but looks like the pipe. I'll have a go at the pipe, first. New pump if that doesn't fix it. It's irritating as every time I fix the 'last' thing ready for MOT, another thing unfixes itself.
Just to add. Looking at DMGRS in case it turns out to be the fuel pump, they actually mention the pump leaking from the top as a common issue. I may do that anyway!
Hi Duncan. below is a genuine MG-Rover pump. it says best offer if it was me i would offer £80.00 and see what they come back at me with, if it was more then my next offer would be £90
Thanks. All dry now. I put a new pump on, got a Pierburg from DMGRS. It may have been just the pipe (it did look a little delaminated so I chopped the end). The how to was very helpful, thanks Steve.
