I'm rapidly loosing my temper with my car at the moment. :hissyfit:

Original sat nav wrecked by water leak.

Fitted a brand new air vent behind the rear bumper in my tourer as the old one was leaking, then had to silicone seal the new one anyway as it was still leaking round the seal. Working so far.

Broke the black plastic hinge trim to reseal the fastenings and buy a new replacement. Working so far.

Bought new waistline clips as current ones leaking. New ones still leaking, tried http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWNX:IT but clip won't click into bodywork.

Anyone have any thoughts short of covering the bloody thing in sealant!!! :gmc:

You can buy 2 inch wide black waterproof tape for outside pipe repairs etc. How about putting some all along the trim run on the inside?

Usual fix for the trims is a dollop of silicone sealant on the back of each fixing.
Trouble with these things is they don't leak when spraying a hose over them, you have to wait until it rains, very time consuming and frustrating.

Thanks chaps. That sounds like a usable idea James.

I was thinking about gunking them, but the rear ones are near impossible to get too. Just doing my head in trying to get a fairly modern car to stop letting water in. :mad1:

I've calmed down a bit now, honest :lol:

but get some dum dum putty & clag it round the trim clips that should do the job nicely

If I can find mine I'll fetch it next Sunday if you're going

A little bit around the clips instead of the o-ring idea should work a treat...................I would avoid silcone sealants for car bodywork

Well, I'm lost for ideas. I've sealed everthing ( well obviously not everything ) that I can get to, and spent the last hour trying to figure out where the water is still getting in, and tracking down the rear pillar, to drip directly on top of where the satnav would be. I channelled the water off the rear off the roof in sections, and somehow it's getting in around the main hinge area. :mad1:

How???????

Not in the shark fin ariel, not the roof bar channels, any of the trim finisher clips. I give up! :gmc:

Hi Carl. I have, but drain tubes doing their job. I literally poured water over a 100mm square section off the back of the roof ( drivers side tailgate hinge ) after trying everywhere else. I have the hinge trim finisher off at the moment after sealing the plastic retaining clips that hold it in place. The only place I can see it going is somewhere in the roof where the hinge is, but it must be the tiniest of gaps that I can't see.

Difficult to explain without pics. :em:

Perhaps I'll do a demo at the international nano to prove I'm not completely off my rocker. :rolling:

Check the black bolt holes/covers on the black running rails on roof where rack can be fitted.
Seams can leak or if covers aren't correct can leak.
All the other normals are the side vents in load area, side trims on car very common, opening rear window seals.
Looks like a check at the Nano, and a stripping job with some five litre water containers.

That was where mine was Zeb but he said checked and cleared OK, but surprising how much water can run back through them, from experience.

Think I have found where it's getting in . . . .ish. Must be an unsealed area inside this joint.

Mine also leaked on the roof rail seams at the back edge... yep runs down the inside of the quarter panels , my n/s roof rail seam leaked like someone had left a tap on.....

This may help to illustrate where the water leaks from the internal trim onto the load cover.

If you look closely you can see a droplet of water, this shows that the water mustbe leaking in from the hinge area.

I have read somewhere that the leak does not come from the roof rails, but how sure of this can we be?

This leak is from the tailgate seal , or tailgate window rubber. the leaks that are body joints or roof rail joints , enter inside the rear quarter panels through the area i posted a picture of. They then run down the inside of the quarter panel, and enter the rear quarter window channel , which then makes you think your rear windows are leaking , if you havent already spotted the leak from above. It then drips down around the sunroof drain panel , and ends up in the spare wheel well.

These areas need to be resealed using bodysealer. also if you remove the roof rails and plastic trim , you will see a thick line of sealer there , this leaked on mine right at the back edge.
