Original Radio/CD never worked. Tips for a replacement? by Ed3

Ed3
I have had this 2005 CDTi saloon for 8 years in November and never got around to making the original radio/CD or rather a replacement work. It has just past the MOT so worth doing a few improvements. Any suggestions on the best way to have a working radio etc?

I have a working 1990s Vauxhall Cavalier radio tape cassette. I am not sure whether that would fit? Or what sort of Radio music player do people buy that is easy to fit in a Rover 75?

If a 2005 probably had an Iovox. They were 'not the best'

My 2004 tourer had one and it didn't work properly. But that did mean it has ISO connectors which are pretty standard. The radio is also DIN E which is a standard size. So there will be many options for a radio CD, and possibilities that can play MP3s and do bluetooth from your phone (for music and phonecalls). A photo of your existing radio would help identify it.

Hi. There are two power feeds. One permanent, the other switched (by the ignition key). They are easy to find in the ISO connector. I'll check the colours and pin numbers and post them.

OK. There are two eight pin connectors in the back of the radio. One is grey, one brown.

The two power feeds and the power ground are all in the same one. Wire colours are: Light green / White (LGW) is switched power. (pin 7) Purple / Pink (PK) is permanent power (pin 4). Black (B) is power ground (pin 8).

So it's the grey plug towards the back. Can't see the colours properly from here but they don't quite add up. Maybe the car has an adaptor in it to add a phone or something? Anyhow if you could unplug the grey one and photograph, and also do the wires in the grey plug go to any other connectors?

Hi Steve, thanks. This photo shows the wires in question very clearly LGW next to B, PK further up.

The system there is a Symphony that uses an adaptor harness to link the BMW round pin connector that the earlier cars had, to the ISO connectors used on Symphony. Theres also a grey flat pin connector which was for the telephone system that got cancelled. The later cars like the OPs had ISO connectors on the main harness not the BMW round pin ones.
