I received news of my promotion today... along with the pay cut which goes with it

Only in the Civil Service could the two possibly go together.

Yeah I know the feeling. We had a rushed meeting at work yesterday. Bosses get us in, tell us all the office moves are still going ahead, we will have 7 desks for every 10 staff (LOL). The budget cuts we had are now even worse and we have lost another £400K (40%!!!). BUT..... we have to loose staff to voluntary redundancies AND we HAVE to maintain outputs and standards.

Further more the planned redecoration of office spaces is off (fair enough I suppose but its not been done since i have been there in 26 years). Whilst my boss is telling me this, the plasterers, plumbers and electricians are making a right din in his office.

I'm not saying this for sympathy for us council types but highlighting what are ridiculous demands regarding outputs AND my boss's total lack of understanding of how having his office redecorated looks to staff (all 125 we currently have left)........
