I wonder if the loss of a Hawk T2 in Anglesey today will hasten its replacement, indeed will it fly again after being grounded yet again for what I suspect may well prove to be another uncontained engine failure. Its engine has been plagued with turbine blade problems in its 01 stage LP compressor which has resulted in a previous grounding. Engine life was drastically downgraded from 4000hrs to 1700hrs and aircraft availability became limited to the extent that some pilots have had to wait years to begin fast-jet training. Always a chance that something might have gone down the engine, birds often do, but if not and turbine failure is found then it could be a Concorde moment for the T2.
