I had known about this for ages, assumed it was common knowledge. The octagon label is a bit of a giveaway.

Quite true, I have had an 'Old Speckled Hen' lapel badge longer than I have had my Rover. Have never quite understood why Morland brewery never did a draught version of 'Old Crafty Hen'.
