I need to check the level of fluid in my gearbox.

The Rover workshop manual at Paragraph 10 states,

'Discard sealing washer'.

Is this necessary? I have not found the washer on the Jatco parts list.

Cannot remember if its an o ring or a copper washer on the level indicator but I have changed my oil twice on the auto box and purely because i didn't have said O ring or copper washer I have re used the original with no issues. That said if I had them at the time i would have changed them as simple good practice

Seems you are correct Dave.

I contacted Jatco and asked if it is necessary to replace the washer, and if so, do they supply them.

They replied,
Sorry we’re are a parts supplier and have no experience of working on vehicles.

Having said that we have never sold/stocked this seal, so I can only presume its reusable in the majority of cases or it’s a standard size that most garages hold in stock.
