My question is for tips when changing low pressure diesel pump(s).

On a saloon early Facelift CDTi with dual low pressure pumps, the car runs fine but the under bonnet pump is getting louder for longer if not loud all the time while I now can't hear any noise near the rear seat from the in tank pump .

I was thinking of changing the in tank fuel pump before things go too wrong. And may be change the under bonnet pump later as a precaution in case events have caused wear.

1) I have nearly half a tank of diesel. Will that be too full when changing an in tank pump?

2) What parts do I need apart from a new in tank pump? Do I need a kind of special cable ties suitable to be in fuel? Or filters or seals?

Any suggestions?

Today I was ready to start replacing the in tank pump. But I can hear the in tank pump on the car working.

All along I wonder if the two low pressure pumps doing strange things is a part of the electrical glitches from water on electrics that is sending strange signals to all sorts of places.

From a sunroof drain leak (into the dash area and immobiliser), I have stopped the wipers, alarm and dash going live and full on when the car is parked and locked by cleaning the corrosion from the immobiliser contacts. But the radio, interior lights and boot light still do as they wish.

I swapped the main diesel fuel filter and housing as I had one spare. But no improvement. While swapping the filter I did a jam jar test of fuel supply coming for the under bonnet pump, - and the jar filled extremely quickly from a very quiet under bonnet fuel pump.

So I wonder if the under body pump working very hard and loud on times is down to electrical glitches. Which will obviously wear out the pump in due course.
