On an early face lift CDTi the under bonnet pump is now very noisy while I can hear the in tank pump working and so I bought an under bonnet pump. But the battery box front T40 bolts are seized. And so the battery tray cannot come out.

I have a hand held impact driver that will not work. When at the same time the impact driver worked on seized screws on a log burner door .

Some say the bolt for the under bonnet pump clamp will undo while the battery tray is in place. But others say if the battery tray is still in place they cant get at the pipe at the bottom of the under bonnet pump to swap the connection.

Is using an angle grinder to cut the heads off the T40 bolts the next best step? Or cut up parts of the battery box?

Ed please don't do any cutting give the T40 bolts a good shock with the torx in it's socket with a long extension, put into bolt and give each one a good wack, use plus gas around the top of the bolt, now with same extension add a long ratchet or even a long bar and turn slowly to crack the rust, they will move don't you worry.
