Brake Pads Low! by Lightpainter

Can anyone tell me just ‘HOW’ the thin brake pad indicator warning works?
I’ve just replaced my rear discs and pads and have cocked it up somehow with a permanent ‘Brake Pads Low’ icon on my message centre even when I unplug the cable behind the wheel arch!
Any advice appreciated.

The device is basically a loop of wire. As the brake pads wear so they break the wire - it goes open circuit - and this brings on the warning.

If the pads have worn such that they have brought the light on then you need to replace the cable.

One way of turning the warning light off is to uplug the cable and then join the two wires near to where it plugs in to the bodywork.

Thanks for the reply’s Lads, my pads weren’t worn down enough to cut the wire but I must have broken it trying to get it out, got the dreaded MOT next week so I decided to change the disc and pads, I’ll try a bit of solder on the little bits of wire that have separated!
