I'm now in the process of re-assembling the rear subframe and arms into the car. One item that has bothered me for a while is 'how to torque' the fixing bolts to the subframe. These are supposed to be done when the car is supported by the wheels (have I got that wrong?)
While I have a deep socket, once the subframe is pulled up to the under body, it doesn’t look like there is room to get the socket & head of the torque wrench in there!
So I sat an thought a while, this is where I got to:
By having the car on it's wheels, the suspension is in a 'neutral' state, neither compressed or in tension. Therefore if I position the subframe at say 100mm lower than fully home & then support the hub such that the wheel bearing centre is 100mm lower than normal, this would be the same 'neutral' state. Am I just dreaming??
If correct I can access the arm bolts for torquing-up at this point.
NOTE: the subframe is currently suspended on m12 studding & m12 nuts, so I can adjust where is is in relation to the car underbody.
