In discussions at work today the subject of quantum mechanics came up, at which point one of my students asked the inevitable:-

"What are quantum mechanics"

Quick as a flash, one of the other students, gilding a quote from Terry Pratchett's book "Eric" of course, said:-

They are the people who fix quantums and charge the earth to do so.

A moment of light relief :)

I remember my friends doing quantum physics at uni. Pages and pages of algebra I seem to recall. Looked like gobbledygook to me, mind you I gave up any interest or liking for anything mathematical at school when we stopped using numbers and switched to letters.
