Rover 75 - is quality same between higher & base model by Ed3

When it comes to Rover 75 carpets (cabin, boot floor and boot sides) do all models have the same quality. The context being if we see Rover 75s parked up for parts. Do we assume a low spec club or classic model has the same quality trim, carpets and parts as a Connoiseur SE or top of the range?

Yes, and then again no.

So the carpets for example are the same whatever the spec. But only for a given age. By that I mean that later cars have poorer quality parts. And that goes for many parts on the car. Another example is the quailty of plastics where the later cars are more prone to greying of black parts. Another example is heater side panels in the front footwells. In later cars they are bare plastic, in early ones, carpet.

Have to agree with Duncan, it is generally excepted that "Project Drive" was simply a cost cutting exercise that did indeed lead to lesser quality items. So the quality of the product is not model specific but more time specific.

that's what is appearing to me. Some boot carpets (side and floor) are dated February 2004 seem just a touch heavier quality to carpets of December 2004/2005. I may see if I can clean up the earlier carpets that have heavy marks from a flooded boot. The earlier carpets seem to have a wax that makes them water resistant and so it will take a number of goes at cleaning to try to not clean off the coating and keep the original feel.
