On a late car its in the instrument pack. That is the sounder that's already in the instrument pack on all models, is used for the PDC on later cars.

No, its the same one. There could be a number of reasons. Wrong PDC parking sensor ECU (Engine Control Unit) (from an older car). Swapped instrument pack IPK (Instrument pack (IPK from the German)) (not coded correctly) Broken wire between PDC and IPK.

sporadic error
5 Minutes later Toaf says short circuit to mass-

I think Rover 75/MGZT's are affected by general moisture and condensation (not rain water ingress) more than we realise. And that the general moisture and condensation affects electrical contacts.

Attached is a photo of my side light/head light main switch from my 2006 reg Rover 75 saloon - and importantly with no sunroof to leak. This main light switch worked well but when I took it out due to curiosity (as Duncan gave warning they can go wrong by corroded terminals) and look how corroded the terminals are?

My immobiliser terminals were in a bad way on my 04 reg (with a sunroof leak). That caused the car electrics to have a mind of it's own. I successfully cleaned up terminals by soaking only the terminals in white vinegar and then being ultra careful with my immobiliser on a desk under a magnifying lamp using micro files and small folded 120 grit paper. I was very careful as an experienced T4 (Testbook version 4.Computer Diagnostic System) garage told me the tiny wire terminals will bend and snap off.

(Online searches suggest being careful to neutralise white vinegar after use to stop the acid affect. I am not sure if my penetrating oil did that).

I'm glad you found the issue with the light switch and sorted it. What can happen is if the green stuff gets further to the main power pins (the big ones) they can cause a prtial short circuit. Not enough to pop the big fuse that protects the wires, but enough to generate a lot of heat that can lead to bad things. Which is whay I bang on about checking it if there are any signs of damp.
