Oh pants, injector leakback by Russ

Seeing it's been a good day I thought I'd have a look at the Tourer to see why it's been struggling to get 40mpg recently.

You'll find the results of my other tests on the other thread. (to be posted shortly)

Injector leakback test next, hooked up test equipment next ran engine for two minutes........

Injector 3 = 25% more :(
Injector 1 = 10% more

Looks like the injectors may be up for an overhaul, going to whack some injector cleaner through first then re-test.

It's going to have to wait until after the MOT in a couple of weeks time if they do need refurbing.

With a leakback test kit you measure the amount of fuel returned on the leakback pipes from each injector over a set period of time then compare them to each other.

Injectors 2 and 4 = 30cc's
Injector 1 = just under 35cc
Injector 3 = 40cc

Col are you sure mine didn't catch it off Grovey ;)

Wonder how much your's was leaking back to cause your problems, mine still starts fine and is running well dispite the poorer fuel comsumption and a slight lack of power low revs than it used to have.

Surely they weren't parked that close at Woodhorn  unless they got up to something while we were in the pub :gmc:

How long does it take to overhaul 4 injectors? i.e. can you have them done while you wait??

When people talk about "balanced" injectors, do they mean to each other? or must they be "balanced" for a particular car?

(am still trying to diagnose the soot prob with my car, may have to start a seperate thread though.) :em:

Depends on wether your injector specialist has the parts in stock to repair them but if he did then probably same day turn around or buy a set already done from Jules & send him your old'uns in exchange.
I reckon your sootyness is down to your synergy settings ;)

Thanks for the reply Colin. :)

>>>I reckon your sootyness is down to your synergy settings<<<

So do I (hopefully) Am now on low MAF (Mass Air Flow Sensor) tuner 3. And will run for 3-400 miles then check it again for MPG.. After that, I intend to turn the MAF off completely and run the same tests again. :) I will report back as things progress on a new thread.. :)
