Keeping headlamps clean for longer? by Duncan

So we all know about headlamps going cloudy, and that it's possible to polish them up. But from the factory there wasn't an issue for many years. Once polished they go cloudy within a few months.

As a potential solution I bought new repro units from Rimmers. They are clearly not OE but have stayed clear since fitted 18 months ago. However its possible the levelling motors inside have failed. They did work, but don't now. I do have the original lamps, and one other I got at a Nano. I might even be able to get a couple more that a friend is selling. I can polish them, even more easily being off the car, but want to do something to stop them clouding up again.

I've been told that the best answer is to use a clear lacquer after polishing, A two pack clearcoat that would be used for bodywork refinishing. I've got some. But I'm aware that there are many possibilities for it to go wrong. Has anyone actually done this and got any hints to make sure it works? Probably my biggest worry is that something in the polish stops the clearcoat applying properly.

Hi Duncan.
In the past i did my headlights as above polishing them, and at the end used a UV liquid similar to the ones below and they stayed nice and clear for 3.5yrs until i sold the car and as far as i know are still ok.

I can't remember the exact one i used at the time, but you have to keep the lights in a dry dust free place once you have applied the coating otherwise dust or flies will stick to it

PS Steve Devlish also as a few lights already to fit maybe worth a PM or call.
