I bought my latest 75 at the beginning of the year after doing all the necessary checks and asking all the right questions. It's a beautiful version - a 2003 Connoisseur Se Cdti - but after sale some undisclosed faults appeared and I referred to AA Mediation, about two months ago. It wasn't bought from AA Cars but from a seller who relied on AA Standards. The seller has finally agreed to consider a written itemised quote for repair. Can anyone possisbly suggest a garage/mechanic in or quite near to Shoreham-by-Sea who might prepare this ASAP and with some reasonable cost consideration. These are the problems: Frequent loud whine in reverse completely negating parking sensor effect / Alarm went off first night at 4am so we leave unlocked at present / Very occasionally idles from cold before engaging / Very slight occasional muffled thump underneath when driving - very slight scrape over metal speed bumps / Pixilated screen which has just started to show doors open when they're not. I could possibly look after one or more of the 'minor' issues. It has done 116,000, not too bad for BMW engine? Many thanks...

I am the other side of the UK and so do not know your area.

You mention "Alarm went off first night at 4am so we leave unlocked at present" and "screen which has just started to show doors open when they're not". This year I bought a CDTi Saloon Connoisseur SE with 86,000 miles and had those issues (and more) from serious rain water ingress. I had severe water ingress at two locations.

Firstly, under the saloon boot carpet and all around the boot. The wooden floor support showed a long term problem. I sealed the tail lights and boot side air vents, (and more), cleaned up the boot and have have dusters and towels over the parking module inside the drivers side rear wing. That stops the parking module getting wet.

Secondly, the more severe problem was the sunroof drain pipe end had shrunk and was not letting rain water reach the drivers side front wheel arch, but directing the rain water down near behind the bonnet pull to open lever. which means flooding the immobiliser unit so that the contacts become corroded and that causes car's dash display to do strange things even when the car is parked and locked. The alarm goes off and sometimes wipers start when the car is parked.

The fix is stop the rain water leak, dry the car and carpet, clean the electrical contacts of the immobiliser and reposition it to avoid risk of rain water ingress

Thank you, I did see that rain could be responsible, but couldn't see any rain effect when I looked at the area under the bonnet by the windscreen. Further, there is no apparent rain effect in the boot or inside, and I don't have a sunroof, but I do agree that is very probably responsible for some of the issues. Unfortunately, I'm not competent enough to attend to it to any extent. I haven't done many miles since purchase so feel the issues should have been known before sale. Apart from the alarm at 4am on the morning after receipt it also idled on startup from cold, finally engaging a mile or so later and has done so occasionally since.

Are the plenums clear? Check the rubber tubes on top of the wings and clean them. Check the plastic clips securing the windscreen cover covering the plenum. And finally, if water has got in, the ECU (Engine Control Unit) may be damaged.
The alarm going off could be the bonnet switch.
