Ken Clarke had been asked why Abu Qatada was was held in custody rather than being released on bail and his (in my view) ill-considered answer was " There are substantial grounds to believe that if released on bail he would leave the country"

At first blush, does that amuse anybody else?

It might be quicker to parcel Abu whats his name up and send him back to Jordan using Royal Mail, but then the postage might be more expensive than a plane ticket.
