Every so often IE 8 freezes and I have to shut it down. I then can't open it again until I restart the PC.

Any ideas why this happens and to solve it?

Have you updated anything recently?
You could always delete or roll back to last update to see if that cures it.

Trying the new IE9 might help iron out any possible bugs to?

I was having that problem, and upgrading to IE9 has indeed cured it.

However, must say I don't like the layout of 9.

Thanks guys

Actually my son-in-law advised me not to upgrade to IE9 (don't know why though?) so I'll check with him for his reasons and may end up doing just that.

As an alternative you could use FF or Safari, both of which are far superior to IE
