It seems that there are 22 Spitfire Mk IIs buried in Burma:

This good news - except for the owners of the 35 or so Spitfires still flying . . .

. . . but yes, they must be excavated and assembled if at all possible.

Also . . .

. . . on a slightly different tack - there are rumours that there are a number of crated Jeeps bricked up inside a certain viaduct in Hampshire - apparently they were not required after the war and just left there. Could just be an urban myth but I've heard the same story from 3 different sources over the years . . .

Dave seems to think it might be nice to see them flying in the UK - the Burmese Government might see things a little differently
