Removing manual gear knob by Pedro

Evening all
I'm trying to remove the gear knob to fit a new gaitor, but it seems to be welded on! Mr Haynes suggests a sharp tug, but it doesn't want to budge. Twisting it doesn't work either. I don't mind applying a bit of brute force but only if I know that the outcome is going to be successful rather than causing extra damage!! So, I give up, what is the correct technique please?

For the earlier ones, it's just pull. Well I say just, you can lift the car up with it, then it will come of and you will have a broken nose.

I usually give it a bit of a lever as well, but take car not to damage the hide or chrome ring or amything.

I think the later ones are the same, but never done one.

Later ones are simply pull off. Use both hands and lift upwards hard. Just be careful not to launch it through the windscreen when it comes off. :o
