If you download the Zip under "Complete set of Vehicle Licensing Statistics tables, charts and maps" and then the Excel Workbook under this for the index, there's some fairly entertaining stats (well, I liked them!)
For example, VEH0120.xls shows how many of each model of each car still on the road there are, year by year
