and then she found drugs

Yet another great talent lost to alcohol and drugs. A crying shame.

Very sad - she will of course be remembered most for 'I will always love you' from 'The Bodyguard' - a track that was actually written and recorded originally by Dolly Parton.

Why so so many of these people turn to drugs when they have achieved so much in life?

Pressure to perform regardless of how one feels. Very few can keep up without the use of exotic substances, they work for a while but then take over. By which time, for so many it's game over.

As Mick says but for some it's also a way of coping with not being able to be your real self. . . and then the substance starts to replace the natural substance that it initially 'enhanced'. As heroin (for example) replaces endorphins, enkephalins and dynorphins to the extent that the body sees no need to produce them naturally any more, then you are screwed. No natural morphine so not having the heroin means severe discomfort.

All of these substances can have a negative effect including legally prescribed medication. It sounds like MzHouston had a lot of prescribed meds with her. . . a bit like Elvis and Micky Jackson.

But not all need durgs. Take the Who, three did but Roger Daltrey shunned them.

Yet another great talent leaves the stage. In reality, all drugs are initially voluntary. Most are taken regularly because of peer pressure until the patient has neither the will nor fortitude to resist. There is no cure, but some individuals have more determination than others to overome the craving - but only if they have iron will or tremendously strong support. There are thousands of music-industry faces who remain drug free and it seems that those that succumb must have some lack of self-esteem or an overiding desire to be 'part of something', no matter what. Survival of the fittest?
In this case, the mawkish public grief demonstrations at the Awards ceremony last night sounded less like a requiem and more like silver dollars rolling over a coffin lid. Still, that's Show Biz.
