Just check your tyres aren't feathered. I was sure I had a bearing going, but the tyre wear was odd and a new tyre cured it. I've heard others say just the same.

I brought 2 of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121063592541?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT and they seem ok so far only done about 3 k on them.

I suggest their changed in pairs though to make sure the ABS (Antilock Braking System) sensors work ok.

And if your doing it yourself the inner bearing cone will probably be stuck and require a dremel / grinder to carefully cut it free, my local garage charged me £50 per side

Thanks guys - is the locking nut done up tight or is there a torque setting?

on mine came off with a 18" bar on the socket with a quick bounce on it ( was 15st bounce mind you)

Mr Haynes says torque for centre nut is 210 NM or 155 lbf /ft

Did that finally solve your ABS problem by the way?

Yes Duncan thanks to your help with the t4 I just changed the drivers side bearing not the sensor and all is well so far.
The sensors a real pain on a tourer as the polystyrene boot lining is in the way.
