Saw a TV ad while we were away recently (no Sky+, so no way to fast forward the ads!)

It was for this build your own model of The Mallard. Introductory offer of only 50p for the first edition of the magazine/initial bits of the model. However...... Each subsequent edition costs £7.99. Maybe not too bad if there were, say, 10 editions, but there are, wait for it, 130! So the whole thing would cost £1038.70

Still, on a positive side, if you get the first edition for 50p, then it'll only cost £1031.21 ;)

I know that this sort of thing has gone on for years, and no-one is forcing anyone else to buy it, but what happens if someone gets their kid the first edition and doesn't realise..... :-o

(oh and the advert states "Paint, track, engine and gearbox available separately")

The sub is a snip at a mere £898.50! Or just £893.01 if you buy the first mag cheap! :)

Think I'd rather put 1031 one pound coins on display - at least they'd (technically) be worth £1031!

The cost of the "O" gauge models is still cheap when compared with a ready assembled one which can cost many thousands of pounds. So not that expensive in reality, but could put twice as many bits per issue so it's quicker.
The Brass kit form version I saw recently with 12v motor was £1785 + P&P.
My brother built their last offering The Flying Scotsman and they do look great when finished and painted etc, or convert to run on steam for another £1000.

I still love this marque and I will still be around, preferred selling to breaking, as a great runner and performer"

Here's another one I've seen advertised

Build The Honda

Interestingly, the TV advert for this one doesn't lure you in with a 50p first edition, and doesn't even mention the price. It's £32 a month for 24 months, which comes to £768 all in, which tbh doesn't sound too bad for a 1/4 scale model! :)
