Hi all,

My driver's side HID (High Intensity Discharge) headlight is becoming more and more problematic and I was hoping to be able to replace the ballast / igniter at the March 11th Nano-Meet.

PLEASE, does anybody know of a ballast / igniter that's available? Even fleabay has let me down now (other than one a week or so ago where they wanted more for the ballast than the whole headlight assembly usually sells for :(

Is the bulb not lighting or the wrong colour?

The burner lights ok but if hot from running for a while and you switch off, it fails shortly after switching on again. Once cold, back to normal.

Mine was the same with the symptons gradually getting worse with one or other side not re-lighting straight away mostly the Passengers side.
Leave for 30 secs or so and they would both relight ok. Then one completely stop working.
Changed both the burners and everything has been ok since.

I did find when I changed them that one of the ballast unit securing fittings where all broken.
Have tie wrapped it to hold in place but I don't think that was causing the issue as this was the drivers side.

So it MIGHT be the burner itself then?

I would try the burners first - Cheaper option and if it isn't these you can keep them until you do need them.

That's it - all sorted :D

Thanks to Col's generosity I decided to change the whole shebang: burner, igniter and ballast and it seems to have worked. I have reliable HID headlights now

Which Col deserves these plaudits? Just out of curiosity, of course. ;)
Very confusing with forum and proper names for a simple soul like me.
I don't like signatures, they take up too much screen space.

It got seriosuly disturbed a few seconds later, and I spent the rest of the afternoon on a three hour round trip to take some water out of a combi boiler after someone had overfilled it and it objected.
