Front Pinch Bolt by david26

I have just bought a Rover 75, its a 99 Connie SE. It failed the MOT due to a broken spring so got the car very cheap. It drive supurb and everything but I cant undo the bolt that clamps to the base of the damper.

Can I cut the bracket off the damper and try to loosen the bolt with the pressure off it or will the damper still not come out.

The bolt head was 15MM but its rounded off now so I just dont know what to do for the best.

Anybody got any ideas on how to get it off or out.

You will need to get the bolt itself out, before the bearing housing will come off the damper. It may be best to drill the end off the bolt and then knock it through. I'm pretty sure there's a groove in the damper itself that will stop it coming out unless you do this.

Once the bolt is out, it helps a lot to put something in the gap to open up the housing to allow the damper to slide out.
