Automatic Gearbox - Revs Increased by Jürgen

During the past few days I noticed a slightly different behavior of the automatic gearbox.

1. When I'm going at a steady speed of 30 mph (for example) and want to accelerate gently, the revs increase for a second or two, before falling to the former level again. Sometime it happens even when I intend to stay at 30 mph without using the cruise control. It's non-reproducible, but may happen once or twice during a journey of more than 15 miles.

2. I've noticed that sometimes the car seems to crawl slower when I release the brake without pushing the accelerator.

I've booked a full service for the days to come and the gearbox oil will be changed, although it's not due yet. It has been changed in 2006 and 2010.

I've read about the solenoids, could one of these be the culprit? Any ideas, please?

Or is it about time to :panic: now ... Well, not yet. ;)

2. Has tickover RPM changed at all?

No, all seems to be normal. Even the gear changes are as smooth as they have been in the past.

Checking the voltages on the various solemoids wont cost much, and may reveal the problem. But hopefully it is just the oil needing replacing.. :) :)

Mick, I think that you've been right on this topic.
Last time it happened, the idle RPM have been a bit lower than usual. Maybe I've been a bit hypersensitive.

The oil has been replaced, so let's wait and see what to do next ...

No, and I don't know whom to ask about the whereabouts ... ;)

The problems haven't returned yet, but I haven't driven much since the service either. As it has been intermittent, it's too early to consider it done.

Finally it got worse and the car is off the road for some time now. :panic:

The diagnosis has been burned clutches of 3rd to 5th gear and worn out converter coatings. The overhaul at a transmission specialist will take one to two weeks. So it's a bit on the expensive side ... but it's worth it to keep the 75. :)

Finally I got my 75 with its refurbished gearbox back. It's running as smooth as new (running in recommended ;)).

So I'm chuffed now. :)

Yes, Andy, I've been quoted a very reasonable price indeed. :)

Now all I've to do is to drive decently for about 600 to 900 miles and then get the oil changed.

The car is behaving very well, so 750 miles later it's about time to get the oil changed tomorrow.

Got the oil changed today, Mike. The car drives dream like again. All I have to do now is a bit of cleaning and a fill up, than I'll be ready to start.

Looking forward to see you on Saturday. :)
