Will admit I read the story earlier and was amazed.....wonder if the Reliant and Aston Martin Owners Clubs hold joint events?

Many performance vehicles are made of composites, as they are (if done properly) lighter. Carbon fibre is basically the same as fibreglass, but with carbon fibres instead of glass ones.

Now, Reliant anticipated fairly low volume sales and therefore built the body in fibreglass and sales took off to such an extent that the company said that they would have tooled up for steel as the body unit would have been cheaper. The upside though is that fibreglass just cracks but does not rust.

and the fibre glass body is heavier than steel, at least it was on the Scimitar. I loved mine which had the old 3ltr Essex lump. The later 2.8 was not in the same class
