Yuck - dirty hands by raistlin

In this weather, just about the only thing I don't like about my car is the way that you cannot shut the boot lid without having to touch the external, salt caked bodywork.

I seem to remember that there is a sort of internal handle which can be fitted to the boot-lid.

Can anybody fill in the details please? :)

I have one. :D Extremely rare.

Still get dirty fingers opening though.

It's simply a folded piece of metal which is attached using the existing two bolts, either side of the lock.

You need to sort yourself out a boot closer on your Ultimate Remote Mod Paul. Very swanky! :-)

This has been discussed David... more than once ;)

The remote bit is easy. The servomechanism is what causes a problem.

The alternative of course Paul is to get yourself a Tourer and use inside grips to close. ;) :D
Merry Christmas.

I agree a right royal pain as the power required to lift and close will vary with temperature and voltage. Needs to be able to detect if something is in the way and back off too. Also have to have some kind of method of disengaging the drive system so if it stops for whatevere reason you can still open or close the boot. Those cars that have the feature usually have an ECU (Engine Control Unit) just for the servo boot system.

But even harder than all that is getting the drive from whatever mecahnism inside the boot, to the boot lid itself. Normally done through the hinges, but then you need to modify the hinges, and provide a driveshaft that comes through the metalwork, without letting water into the boot and mechanism.

An alternative method is hydraulic. But still a horrible thing to try to do.

Cool if it were possible.

Anything is possible.

We can't have Paul getting his hands dirty!

Yup, I know I'll :gmc:
I don't like signatures, they take up too much screen space.

Yes. I guess possible is the wrong word, as technically it is possible. Maybe realistic is the word I was groping for?
