Vis rattle 2.5 V6 by Borg Warner

Gentlemen

I looked at a V6 auto which sounded like a bag of nails on start up but once warm was smooth and quite. Am I right in saying this is just the VIS (Variable Intake System) chambers or is it the manifold? Seemed to respond very well on kick-down, but without comparing it to something similar it's difficult to know.

It's hard to say.

I wouldnt expect a VIS / Manifold nosie to quieten down, it sounds more like valve lifters if it's better when hot. As for your question, sometimes you get manifold rattle because of a dead motor, and if you are quick enough a new motor fixes it. However this is not always the case, and it could be a dead mainfold.

Cheers Duncan

It's actually a Freelander I looked at from a garage. Sounds (no pun intended) expensive, which is most likely the reason it is quite below book price.

You can get good maifolds still. I picked up one as a spare for fity, including the two VIS motors and the traction throttle body. VIS motors needed refurbing, but the manny itself is in fine order.
