Using the club VIS tester to show early inlet manifold wear by takestock

Something I have been meaning to post for sometime.
It is possible to use the club VIS (Variable Intake System) tester to see if your inlet manifold has early signs of the death rattle.

Quite simply, when the power VIS is working it pulls the butterflies on to their seating. This means on tick over no rattle from slightly worn joints is apparent.

To test for early signs of wear:

Firstly ensure the power VIS is functioning using the normal procedure in the VIS tester instructions.

The following actions will then give an early indication of wear on the inlet manifold:

Remove loom plug from power VIS and plug in the tester. Start the car without touching the accelerator ( this avoids any fault codes being created) Then with the power VIS selected on the tester, press the test button, that will cause the VIS motor to travel across and in turn open the butterflies off their seat.

With the butterflies held open and the slight vibration of the engine ticking over any worn joints on the butterflies will be highlighted and show themselves as a rattle.
