Tyre wear by raistlin

I noticed that one of VeeKay's front tyres was worn around the outer edge.

Does that sound like a tracking problem please?

Sure does.

I don't like signatures, they take up too much screen space.

Only one, or both? I'd expect tracking to wear two, whereas a bush or similar might affect one side only, wouldn't it?

I can reccomend a place in Dudley to get the whole alignment checked out. Proper Hunter machine, know how to use it and not silly prices. Most owners of the machines charge a flat £65 even if you have a motor with almost no adjustment. Had our Roomy checked out, sorted the tracking and a nice printout, £25. The check only is even less at £10.

I'm by no means a chassis / suspension man but I can't see tracking causing wear on one side only. Tracking is about how paralell your wheels are. They are usually set slightly 'toe in' I believe. If the tracking is wrong, then they are pointing in too far or out too far. You could say that one side is in, one side out but then you just have to drive along with the steering down one side to drive straight. This is how our Roomy was even after adjustment by a tyre 'specialist'. The wear would still be shared between the two if the overall tracking was wrong.

Some of the reasons here sound quite painful - http://www.procarcare.com/includes/cont ... ewear.html - my balljoints are aching just looking at them!

Well. I took the car over to Tony today and it appears the lower arm bush on the near-side has split. Makes sense to change both sides so that'll be done this week. I'm a bit miffed that this should have happened at such a low mileage. VeeKay has only done 130 000 miles - barely run-in

Mind you the price wasn't as painful as I'd thought it might be. Both sides replaced for £45 :)
