Towbar Wiring Fault - help needed by carlpenn

carlpenn
I am supposed to be collecting a 6ft by 4ft Trailer tomorrow, but I have a problem with my Light board.

My sidelights work

When I brake, The Sidelights go off.

When I indicate left I get nothing.

When I indicate Right, I get a wierd beeping sound from the rear of the car and the sidelights dim in time with the indicator

With Sidelights off, I get

no brake lights

no left indicator

Right indicator works but with the same beeping as before.

Any idea's welcome.

It's an earth fault. either the earth is disconnected or wired incorrectly

Cheers :)

I am going to take a shot in teh dark and say that it may have disconnected, previous owner used teh Towbar regular, he was honest enough to tell us this prior to buying (Rather than say "Well, I had it fitted but never used it" as some folk do)that he used the car as a workhorse with a trailer.

Beeping is probably the bypass relay confirming the indicators working.

Cheers Duncan.

We didn't collect Trailer, mainly because after looking at it, 6ft by 4ft is actually bigger than I thought at first, way too big for what we require. Will look at the Trailer wiring later, but will need to sort it before July as will look at buying a small Trailer over the next few weeks. Failing that, it may end up being a Roof Box.

Also worth trying another light board so you know which part the fault lies ;)

My guess is it's an earth fault on the left hand lamp on the trailer board.

Bring it to the Nano if you like and we'll have a butchers. I have a car with working electrics. Is it 7 pin? If so I'll bring an adaptor.
