temp gauge by len

hi have a problem with temp gauge does not read above half on gauge even when fan working or overheating the problem caused engine failure not just head gasket but distortion please any ideas as dont want to lose another engine

not to sure about the k series but it could be a faulty thermostat what engine do you have the k series or kv6?

Half way on the temp gauge is the normal reading, providing the gauge itself is working. What the actual temp is can be deduced from using the IPK (Instrument pack (IPK from the German)) diagnostics.

thanks mick so its the 1.8 len has the thermostat ever been upgraded to the better prt type?and as mick said the ipk diagnostics should tell you actual temperature

yes the thermostat has been replaced with prt type sorry my 75 is 1.8 turbo the gauge will not go above half even when rad fan or the car is boiling over water pump and head gasket changed rad changed sender changed now we have another engine still the same help

It could be physically sticking. If uou look at the instrument pack diagnostics there's a way to test the movement of all the needles on the guages. Worth a try.

Also, in case you didn't spot it, you can set the display where the odometer goes to show the engine temperature, too. The instructions are a PDF in the howto section.
