Harping on still further about speed guns.........

.....did anyone else hear about the Northumberland Police radar test?
I heard about it a few years ago. Apparently a new radar gun was being trialled on a stretch of the A1 in said county. An approaching vehicle was read as doing in excess of 300 mph shortly followed by a complete and final failure of the radar. The Police were baffled by this strange behaviour. Putting two and two together the officers reported back that they believed an RAF Tornado that flew over shortly after may be responsible and a complaint was duly sent.

The RAF response...

'Thank you for your message, which allows us to complete the file on this incident. You may be interested to know that the tactical computer in the Tornado had detected the presence of, and subsequently locked onto, your hostile radar equipment and automatically sent a jamming signal back to it. Furthermore, an air-to-ground missile aboard the fully-armed aircraft had also automatically locked onto your equipment. Fortunately the pilot flying the Tornado recognized the situation for what it was, quickly responded to the missile systems alert status, and was able to override the automated defence system before the missile was launched and your hostile radar installation was destroyed.

Good Day...' :whump:

It was an apache attack helicopter when I heard it. And Northampton Police.

Would be funny if it were true though, wouldn't it.

of course. a jet would probably fall out of the sky at that speed, not to mantion the range on a speed gun is no more than 100m, so it would have to be pretty low

Nooooo!!! It really happened.. they just changed the bit where he interrupted the missile launch to make it possible to release the story and make it family friendly.

...forgot to mention the bit where the Tornado fell out of the sky but it did sort of overshadow the original story.
