Tricky one.

In the event of a claim, you still pay more. But maybe not as much more as if you didn't have it.

Only an insurance insider would really know.

I pay for the protection and wonder if I'm being had.

Tricky one. I've always had protected no claims and only used it once in about twenty years. I try not to view it as an extra but as an integral part of the cost. Somehow it makes it a little less painful. :)

They wanted an extra £30 for 'protection' which, as you say, given the price will rocket anyway because one has made a claim, seemed pointless....for the first time ever I haven't opted for it.

Can't afford to do that this time....my approach has always been the same as yours in the past...
