Blower motor by Dlawrie

I believe my blower motor to be faulty on my 99 75 2ltr v6 with ATC (Automatic Temperature Control), I have never changed it before so have a few questions to ask,
How long should I allocate for the job and gas anyone done this before if so did they happen to rake sone pics as they were going along?

I've never heard of one failing before, so are you sure it's the motor? There should be a fuse just for the blower if I remember right. And if it's not that I'd say more likely the transistor pack, even though I've not heard of those failing either.

As I've never heard of one failing, I've no idea about replacing one I'm afraid.

Ok well I spoke to my mechanic and he wants £500 to fix the problem Which sounds a little expensive

I'd get a quote from Lates if I were you. He's relatively local. Rugby.

Depends on the urgency, too. You could come along to the nanomeet and someone should be able to take a look and offer a second opinion. £500 sounds way steep to me.

I'll have a look at some manuals now and see if it tells me anything.

Right. Some simple checks you can make first of all:

Check the fuselink in the fusebox under the bonnet. It's link 10, which is 40 amp. While you are there, check the relay is properly plugged in, this is relay R176, but may just be marked with a picture to say it's the blower relay.

If these look OK, it may be wise to check the voltage at the motor. This is accessible from the drivers footwell. It has a two way plug with brown / blue stripe and a plain brown wire. With ignition on and ATC on with the fan turned up, check what the voltage is on both wires. The brown blue should have battery voltage, the brown should be lower by quite a way.

Give us some feedback on what you find and it should help solve the problem.

If it is the blower, then the pedal box has to be removed. It's not clear whether it's only when the car is manual. It's a bit more work, but not loads. Blower fans are £30 to £50 on the bay so that's a steep labour quote.

Thanks Duncan done all the check listed and it all comes back fine, a friend of a friend is a auto electrician and he has checked the blower motor and told me that's fine, he has went to check the resistor pack but has told me it's missing although the plug is there, I've been left to get the part myself but colliers can't tell me which one I need, I'm confused though, if the transistor pack was never there how come my heating was working in the first place?

If you have ATC it's a transitor pack, if normal rotary controls then you need a resistor pack.

According to the circuit diagrams, if you need a resistor pack the four wires in the connector will be two balc yellows, a black orange and a black purple. For the transistor pack you would have yellow pink, yellow white, black and brown.

Looking at rimmerbros website, The resistors are not available, though ebay seem to have some:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HEATER-RESIST ... 336a352c6c

and there's a replacement for the transistor pack though someone on ebay is listing one that seems to be a transistor pack but listed as a resistor:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rover-75-Heat ... 3cbce9d68d.

Really you need help from someone who is breaking one and knows it the same as what you have.

Edit: for the second link, one of the pictures seems to show yellow wires, sort of confirming its a transistor pack rather than a resistor.
However I'm as confused as the next man about why it's missing unless someones trying to pull a fast one. It would be a good way to make a few hundred notes by simply re-installing a removed part.

Suspicious, moi?
