If its the battery most Motor Factors and Halfords can test your battery.
You may need a jump start to get you going for test though.

Did it just go "dead" or any previous warning signs of problems?

left it overnight .came back in the morning the central locking was dead , tried the ignition just a click.
annoying thing is breakdown bloke jumped it but didn't check to see if it was charging took car out for half an hour with nothing on, came back next day ,dead again.
i am surprised that it's the battery as its only 2and a bit years old

My moneys on the battery - they used to slowly discharge over time but these days they just seem to die without warning.

Mark, it looks like the battery is the culprit, as you also mentioned a dead central locking.

BTW, some batteries may die early. Once I had a LR OEM one, which lasted for two years only. I assume it has spent a long time on the shelf.

Battery as said is favourite.
When it was started and running did the alternator light come on at all?
If not even more likely the battery.
Many have a minimum of three year warranty now, keep that receipt safe.

no lights at all on dashboard when running .i did several miles after it was jump started and was fine until the following morning when it was dead again.
how much should i pay for battery, have been quoted between £72 and £95 at different places!!
